Great Minds Think For Themselves

Today: ...went to the bank. Two young women in line decided my choice of clothing was laugh out loud funny and proceeded to crack jokes with one of the tellers' about what I was wearing. When I reached a teller, the previous one that had participated in the not-so-discreet berating of my outfit, attempted to invite my teller in on the fun. However, the teller boldly replied "I'm not participating in that type of behavior", and shot her coworker a dissapproving glance. My friend and I laughed as we exited; people these days...

And for the record, I was wearing a one sleeved floral/black blouse, cinched with a skinny studded belt, black distressed denim shorts, fishnet leggings, and calf length black boots; pretty innovative but not so newsworthy (didn't even manage to get a picture :/)

I have never been one to make fun of people for being different, instead I've always celebrated individuality. The freedom to be an individual is the number one thing that draws me to fashion! The ability to create moods, feelings, and art through clothing is why I love fashion. Being able to say a million things and express yourself without even saying a word..ah, what a gift!

On Twitter, @asherroth stated: "Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people." Amen Brotha ;))) and @Rose0321 tweeted that: "The reason people talk behind your back is because you're ahead of them." Oh by the way, feel free to follow me on Twitter, I need more fashionable friends, and how fuuun is it to see all my weird personal photos and random/eccentric thoughts/feelings? Oooh! Hahaha...

"It is my belief that the Best People are those Who are their Own People."

i like the word 'zany'

I am whole heartedly sorry for the recent neglecting of my blog; this summer has been non-stop (non stop everything!) and duty always seems to be calling! When the bags under your eyes begin to resemble shopping sprees, you know it's time for a hiatus.

Throughout this busy, bustling and oh-so-bangin' season that I view more of as a long holiday (never too cold weather, 9PM sunsets, fun/flirty/fierce fashion, amazing nightlife) I managed to snap a picture of one of my favorite summer essentials: the one piece/romper/jumpsuit (synonyms?) I looooved this piece as soon as I saw it; even as I eyed it on the mannequin, I immediately envisioned it's light, airy material and cool, breezy cut making for the perfect shopping day piece. Its' bold yet very versatile zebra print and harem style cut of the legs just added fuel to the already flamin' fashion fire! And after I decided to amp the look even more by rockin' neon pink hi-tops, the simplicity gods pleaded with me to go sans accessories; which didn't bother me much considering I forget about accessories half the time anyway.

Speaking of cooooool, if you haven't seen Tim Burton's latest quirky creation, Coraline yet, GO SEE IT- like NOW! Yes, it's a cartoon, a genre I rarely visit (with the occasional exception of Tom and Jerry reruns) but if you know Tim Burton, then you know he brings cartoons to an entire different level! Coraline is amazing in it's unique artistry, bold and rich color hues, other worldly, yet beautiful animation and suuuper zany, freaky, randomly eerie storyline! I was also inspired to create a rag doll after watching this movie. In some ways it reminded me of a video game, I don't want to explain how because I don't want to ruin the movie for you but trust me on this one, Coraline is a must-see, sooo go see it!

she has 'it'

Sooo just incase you were previously unaware, I absolutely adore Edie Sedgwick! She is such a huge (HUGE!) inspiration, I just die everytime I watch Factory Girl! Perching at the end of my seat, ballpoint pen and composition book in hand; Edie never fails to excite me! Whether it be her impecabble, unique, and effortlessly amazing sense of style (esp. the ridiculously oversized, fabulously gawdy earrings), her perfect pixie cut, or her vivacious, free spirited, enjoy life attitude- Edie Sedgwick is my muse! Now, I of course adore and admire the queen of chic and class, Audrey Heburn, but to keep it 100, I'm sadly just not that classy and proper. I relate much more to Edie becase, much like me, she's a free spirted, quirky, and eccentric life lover! She says whatever she wants, does whatever she wants and it's beautiful because she's real and lives life on her own terms! Definitely my kind of girl! Oh and speaking of my kind of girl- why the eff wasn't Mary Kate Olsen's part in Factory Girl longer than three seconds? She too, causes my heart to palpitate!

P.S- OhmygahOhmygahOhmygah: Did you know that Edie was Betsey Johnson's first ever fitting model? My favorite designer in the whole world, Betsey Johnson! That's it, I'm convinced Edie and I are destiny, consider my life complete! Or at least expect biggo bangin' ear adornments, and mucho mini shift dresses.

love

Today I am thanking God that I live near LA! No, not because of the amazing shopping venues and culturally diverse population (which are both top notch reasons, don't get it twisted ;)) but Michael Jackson's public funeral/tribute is on Tuesday at the Staples Center! I want to go, I need to go. Just like the fashion blogosphere, it's so soul enriching and heart warming to share something you're passionate about and love with other people that feel the same way. To come together and comemarate a legend, celebrate his unsurmountable work and remember his magic with what is bound to be milions of people, will be complete bliss!

Growing up, Michael Jackson was a staple in my household. My mum has always loved him, and in turn my brother and grew up loving him as well. This shirt is from the 1984 Victory Tour MJ did with his brothers; the back of the tee has a picture of him with all of them on there. My mum went to a lot of MJ concerts back in the day, so this was one of many vintage concert tees in her posession; I especially loved this one because of the siiick sunnies MJ's rocking on the front!

P.S- As I made my way through the airport, a young woman ran up to me and said "OMG, I swear I thought you were Rihanna!" Uhh...sooo...I politely smiled in return and continued on my search for Gate A9; inside though, I was slightly joyed; I kinda looove Rihanna.
